Kirsten Dunst on The Meaning of Home: "I like things that make me feel things" -- On Controlling Our Inputs by Acting on Aspects of Our Environment

All life must control its inputs to keep them in the preferred range. The preferred range is that which sustains life, but is interpreted by the organism at different levels of abstraction.

This home is full of meaning, feeling, stories, and interpretation that make it "beautiful."  Jane (the designer) brings objects with histories and stories to Kirsten. Kirsten controls her inputs to keep herself in her interpreted range of  her unique and personal reference for the meaning of beauty and being home.

For Kirsten Dunst, a beautiful home is controlled inputs that make her feel things,  with special objects that carry stories, history, and meaning, that she interprets as home. Working with Jane, she iterates (varies her path) to stay in a range of her own reference for home.

The Ancient and Universal Meaning of Home -- Far from Home, Almost Home, and Home Away From Home

"When a guitar string is plucked or when children jiggle a jump rope, the shape that appears is a sine wave. The ripples on a pond, the ridges of sand dunes, the stripes of a zebra -- all are manifestations of nature's most basic mechanisms of pattern formation: the emergence of sinusoidal structure from a background of bland uniformity.

"There are deep mathematical reasons for this. Whenever a state of featureless equilibrium loses stability -- for whatever reason, and by whatever physical, biological, or chemical process -- the pattern that appears first is a sine wave, or a combination of them.

"Sine waves are the atoms of structure. They're nature's building blocks. Without them, there'd be nothing, giving new meaning to the phrase 'sine qua non.'"

"Quantum mechanics describes real atoms, and hence all of matter, as packets of sine waves. Even at the cosmological scale, sine waves form the seeds of all that exists. Astronomers have probed tge spectrum (the pattern of sine waves) of the cosmic microwave background and found that their measurements match the predictions of inflationary cosmology, the leading theory for the birth and growth of the universe. So it seems that out of a featureless Big Bang, primordial sine waves -- ripples on the density of matter and energy -- emerged spontaneously and spawned the stuff of the cosmos.

"Stars. Galaxies. And, ultimately, little kids riding Ferris Wheels."

Nature partially explained by conversion from analog to digital: information loss as partial, incomplete transformation

Be back for this but no one is uploading anybody and recovering the complete living entity. We are not completely digital, not completely discrete, not completely binary. The whole organism is responsible for keeping the lights on for the "parts" of which it is constituted. There is absolutely no getting around this. HISTORY and MEMORY are not the same thing. This is best expressed by the great physiologist and Nobel Laureate Albert Szent-Gyorgyi who said an electron "always knows the way" [home] and "never misses" [home].  Life often doesn't know the way and often misses. Life's definition of home cannot be the same as the electron's which is given by initial conditions and the law, and never misses and always knows the way. When we die, the parts of which we are made will once again know their way and never miss. They are once again dependent only on history and initial conditions and do not need to translate anything or remember anything. Life is dependent on transforming and storing its past to "know the way." This is not the same as dependence on history.

"Analog-to-Digital converters (ADC) translate analog signals, real world signals like temperature, pressure, voltage, current, distance, or light intensity, into a digital representation of that signal. This digital representation can then be processed, manipulated, computed, transmitted or stored.Jan 20, 2021"

If there is anything analog about living information, converting the living analog information that was Captain Kirk to binary, digital, discrete will lose information. What is recovered at the other end will not be a complete "conversion" of Captain Kirk (if there is anything analog about living information).
